Brand story

Our story

You don’t need fixing.

You need acceptance

It Started With A Feeling

Ruinveil exists for the ones who never felt like they fit the room they were given. The ones who found belonging in heavy music, late-night friendships, festival fields, tattoo chairs, gym mirrors, and the quiet decision to stop apologising for being different. This is clothing built around individuality, not conformity — a signal that the outside can become a home.

For as long as I can remember, I never really felt like I belonged anywhere.

Not because I was trying to be different.

But because I never seemed to fit the version of "normal" that everyone else expected.

At school, I listened to heavy music.

Metal. Rock. The bands that made me feel something.

Music became the place where I felt most like myself.

Yet somehow...

I never looked like the person people expected me to be.

I dressed like everyone else.

Short hair.

Branded clothes.

Nothing about me matched the stereotype people had in their minds.

To some people I was "the weird one" because of the music I loved.

To others...

I wasn't alternative enough because of the way I dressed.

For years I felt like I didn't completely belong in either world.

Even Among My Own People

When I first went to Download Festival in 2011, I was excited.

I'd finally found thousands of people who loved the same music I did.

But something still felt wrong.

I looked around and everyone seemed to fit the scene.

Battle jackets.

Band shirts.

Long hair.

Piercings.

Tattoos.

Then there was me.

I looked like... me.

I remember feeling judged before I'd even spoken to anyone.

Almost as if I needed to prove I deserved to be there.

For years...

I never went back.

Not because I didn't love the music.

Because I thought I had to become somebody else before I deserved to stand among those people.

Then Everything Changed

Years later...

I went back.

This time something felt different.

Nobody cared what I was wearing.

Nobody cared whether I looked alternative enough.

People smiled.

Started conversations.

Shared drinks.

Helped complete strangers.

Sang together.

Laughed together.

For the first time...

I realised something.

The community wasn't built around appearance.

It was built around acceptance.

Maybe I'd spent years worrying about rules...

...that never actually existed.

The Realisation

That experience changed the way I looked at everything.

Not just festivals.

Life.

How many people spend years hiding parts of themselves?

Changing the music they listen to.

Changing how they dress.

Changing the way they speak.

Changing who they are.

Just to feel accepted.

Nobody should have to earn the right to belong.

Not because of their clothes.

Not because of their tattoos.

Not because of their music.

Not because they don't fit someone else's stereotype.

You shouldn't have to become somebody else...

...just to feel accepted.

Why Ruinveil?

A veil hides who we really are.

A veil created by society.

It protects us.

It helps us fit in.

It keeps us safe.

But over time...

That same veil can stop us becoming ourselves.

Ruinveil represents tearing down that disguise.

Not becoming someone different.

Returning to who you were before the world told you who you should be.

The number XIII has always been misunderstood.

People call it unlucky.

Different.

Something to avoid.

Sound familiar?

We chose XIII because society often fears what it doesn't understand.

Sometimes the things people tell you to avoid...

Become the things that define you.

Why XIII?

The number XIII has always been misunderstood.

People call it unlucky.

Different.

Something to avoid.

Sound familiar?

We chose XIII because society often fears what it doesn't understand.

Sometimes the things people tell you to avoid...

Become the things that define you.

Why now?

For years, I believed I didn't belong.

Not because anyone had told me I wasn't welcome.

Because I'd convinced myself I wasn't enough.

When I finally returned to Download Festival...

Everything changed.

I realised the acceptance I'd been searching for had been there all along.

Nobody cared what I looked like.

Nobody cared whether I dressed the "right" way.

Nobody cared whether I fit the stereotype.

They cared that I was there.

That I loved the music.

That I was part of the moment.

It made me realise something.

How many people spend years standing on the outside...

Simply because they believe they don't belong?

I almost missed out on years of incredible memories...

Because I spent too long worrying about what other people might think.

I don't want anyone else to make that same mistake.

That's why I created Ruinveil.

Not to tell people who they should become.

But to remind them that they never needed to become anyone else in the first place.

If one person discovers this brand...

Walks into their first festival...

Their first gig...

Their first gym...

Or simply walks out of their front door...

Feeling just a little more confident in who they are...

Then Ruinveil has already done what it was created to do.

Because this has never been about clothing.

It's about giving people the feeling I spent years searching for.

A place where being yourself is enough.

A place where outsiders finally belong.

This Isn't About Clothing

If all we wanted to build was another clothing brand...

We could have launched already.

We could have chosen cheaper suppliers.

We could have rushed the designs.

We could have printed logos on blank shirts and called it finished.

But that isn't why Ruinveil exists.

Every decision comes back to one question.

Does this help somebody feel like they belong?

If the answer is no...

We don't do it.

Because clothing should never be the reason somebody belongs.

It should simply become the symbol of a community they've already found.

The Community

We don't care what music you listen to.

Whether you're covered in tattoos...

Or have none.

Whether you wear black every day...

Or bright colours.

Whether you're in the gym.

At a festival.

Walking through town.

Or sitting at home.

You don't have to fit somebody else's idea of what this community should look like.

You just have to be yourself.

That's enough.

It always has been.

Welcome Home

Outsiders Belong Here.

Not because we're all the same.

Because we're all different.

This isn't just a clothing brand.

It's a reminder that somewhere out there...

There are people who'll accept you exactly as you are.

Welcome to Ruinveil.

Welcome home.
